After months, I have decided that it is finally time for another blog post! My work life has recently brought me to the point of heavy exhaustion. Homecoming ended last weekend, and with that end came the end to my procrastination and excuses. Now is the time friends! Seize the day and all that…
At times I find myself feeling like I don’t have much to say. What do I have that others might want to read? Well, I have come to the conclusion that if blog posts like these peak my interest, then there are bound to be other crafters in my boat! Here’s to hoping that this specific blog post might be worth your oh so precious time.
For our topic today, I would like to focus on something specifically that has brought so much joy to my life in the recent months. For my birthday this year, my sweet sweet husband (along with other family members) gifted me with an IPAD PRO! Say what you will about iPad art, but this has been one of the best and most useful gifts I have ever received! Gone are the days where I would spend countless hours editing and digitizing a design in photoshop/illustrator. This tool is convenient, extremely versatile, and so much fun! If I want some calligraphy or lettering practice, I no longer have to spend so much money on paper & pencils, I can erase with my apple pencil and start a new document right on the screen! That in itself is an amazing reason why I love my iPad pro.
Here’s 3 reasons why the iPad pro will change your life:
Instant Digital Art- Before I had my iPad, I would draw out my design, take a picture of it with my phone or scan it, then upload it to Photoshop or illustrator and edit away for hours until it started to look the way that I wanted. This process was extremely meticulous, not to mention the frustration that came when my image didn’t scan right or my adobe skills were lacking. Now I can draw, edit, and export into whatever format I want right from my iPad! It’s amazing! The first time I experienced this phenomenon tears flowed and I was overjoyed thinking of the time I was now able to save. Have I mentioned how much I love my husband?? Best. Present. Ever.
Skill Building- I’ve definitely heard the little whispers of those who think iPad lettering is an “easy way out” or “cheating” from having to learn the actual technical skills required in lettering. In my experience, I have found this to be completely false. Handlettering on my iPad, while it was an adjustment, still requires just as much skill as handlettering on paper. Much of the technique is the same, the iPad pro actually is pressure sensitive (amazing right??). So just as you would use more pressure on the down strokes and less on upstrokes on paper, the same is true for iPad lettering!
Un-digital design planning- before my iPad pro, I would spend so much of my paper and supply resources on the pre-project work. One piece of paper would be for how I wanted the letters to look, another would be for the layout, before I knew it, I had used and thrown away 20 pieces of paper for one project. Now, I can create layers with grid lines, play with different fonts, delete sections, make something larger or smaller ALL IN ONE DOCUMENT. From there, I use my iPad design as a guideline for my actual artwork- saves time, energy, money, and space in my trashcan!
A few things I have been able to make with my iPad Pro: digital album art, invitations, digital prints, digital design for a wall applique, t-shirt designs, custom logos, phone wallpapers, and more!! Check out some of my designs below.
